Malaysia Solar Energy Feed-In-Tariff Scheme (Part 2)

What solar photovoltaic system is qualified for the FiT?

There are two types of solar photovoltaic systems: (1) grid-connected and (2) off-grid (or stand-alone).

To qualify for feed-in-tariff (FiT) we have to install the grid-connected photovoltaic setup.

How does grid-connected photovoltaic (GCPV) work?

The fundamental of GCPV system is that the DC power generated from the solar PV modules will be converted to AC power through an inverter, and then export to the power grid, i.e. the power line of SESB in Sabah . There are few basic components of GCPV system.
  1. Solar modules: typically installed on the roof. They are made up of photovoltaic cells, which convert sunlight into DC power.
  2. Inverter: It converts the DC power from the modules into AC power.
  3. Solar kWh meter: This meter continually measures the solar power exported into the grid. The FiT payment will be based on the reading of this meter.
  4. Grid: To continue supplying electricity required by the house to run the electrical appliance, day and night.
  5. Some protective devices, like surge protection device, earthing, DC and AC main switches, etc.
Below picture shows the basic schematic of GCPV system.
