Urine - Another Source Of Renewable Energy

Source: The Next Web

What can you use your urine for? Now, 4 African teenagers have discovered another use of urine. They developed an urine-powered generator that can provide six hours of electricity for every one liter of urine. They showcased their invention at the 2012 Maker Faire Africa in Lago, Nigeria.

How does it work:
  • Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which breaks the urea into nitrogen, water, and hydrogen using electrical energy.
  • The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder.
  • The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas.
  • The purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator.
  • 1 Liter of urine gives you 6 hours of electricity.

Never underestimate the creativity and imagination of today youngster. I believe every one of us can make an positively impact to our world.
